2008 Clinical Centers of Excellence in Pain Management Awards Program - Online Award Application
The "Clinical Center of Excellence in Pain Management Award" is given to recognize outstanding clinical programs in pain management. The American Pain Society will award this prestigious recognition on an annual basis.
High quality pain management includes the following
- appropriate assessment (e.g., screening for the presence of pain, completion of a comprehensive initial assessment when pain is present, and frequent reassessments of patient responses to treatment);
- multidisciplinary, collaborative care planning that includes patient input;
- appropriate treatment that is safe, efficacious, cost conscious, and culturally and developmentally appropriate; and
- access to specialty care as needed.1
These criteria are consistent with a definition of quality that encompasses appropriate structures, processes, and outcomes for care. They are applicable to settings that provide acute pain, cancer pain, and chronic non-cancer pain management for adults of all ages, adolescents, and children.

Eligibility
The Clinical Center of Excellence in Pain Management Award is intended to honor programs or services that exemplify the provision of outstanding clinical care regardless of size. Any U.S. based, multidisciplinary clinical program that provides direct patient care and is primarily focused on the treatment of pain that believe they meet the eligibility criteria are encouraged to apply. This award is intended to honor teams rather than individuals. Selection of awardees will be based on judgment of the quality of services provided and not size of program. Attempts will be made to balance service excellence with available resources.
